Prosper Independent School District embarked on new territory when they decided to build their first prototypical elementary school. Above all else, PISD wanted this facility to set the bar for an environment that would support and enhance learning.
And set the bar it did! The new elementary serves Pre-K through fifth grade students with a core capacity for 900. For extra security, the new elementary school features a common double vestibule entrance directly off the administration area, forcing visitors to check in with an attendant prior to entering the building. A standard keypad entrance security system can be modified or expanded further for video surveillance cameras in the future.
Folsom features a library/media center and a fitness center that are centrally located for in-school or after hours activities. Additional features of the learning environment are spacious 900 square feet classrooms, including rooms for art, music, and science, as well as a cafetorium and community room. Students dropped off by parents have a separate, three-lane approach to the front of the school with its signature canopy structure, while bus riders have their own drop-off drive separate from the main entrance.
The 15-acre site is situated in the La Cima residential development in Prosper and incorporates 150 parking spaces, play areas, and a master planned area for expansion of the elementary school. The new prototype elementary school is the first of three to be brought to life under the district's current bond program.
